List of Community Resources for ALZ-Dementia – Clinicians
While there are several hundred neurologists in the DFW area, only a fraction—roughly 45 to 65 specialists—strictly focus their practice on senior-specific memory disorders like Alzheimer’s and Dementia. These specialists are usually classified as Cognitive & Behavioral Neurologists or Geriatric Neurologists. Because this is a highly specialized field, most practice within “Memory Clinics”. Within these, a “Multidisciplinary Memory Clinic” typically provides a neurologist, a neuropsychologist (for testing), and a social worker all in one loop, which in our experience is much more effective in our experience than a solo neurologist practice. Here are the primary multidisciplinary memory clinics in the DFW metroplex that offer integrated care (neurology, neuropsychology, and support services) for seniors.

Key ALZ/Dementia Statistics for DFW
- As of 2026, it is estimated that approximately 115,000 to 125,000 seniors (age 65+) in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex are living with Alzheimer’s or a related dementia. The county level breakdown is projected to be:
- Dallas County: 38,000 – 42,000
- Tarrant County: 29,000 – 32,000
- Collin County: 14,000 – 16,000
- Denton County: 11,000 – 13,000
- Total Across “Core” DFW: 92,000 – 103,000
- The remaining ~20,000 cases are spread across the surrounding counties like Rockwall, Kaufman, Ellis, and Johnson.
- The “1 in 9” Rule: Roughly 11% (or 1 in 9) of DFW residents aged 65 and older have Alzheimer’s. That percentage jumps to nearly 33% for those age 85 and older.
- The Caregiver Gap: For every 1 senior living with dementia in DFW, there are an estimated 2 to 3 unpaid family caregivers (roughly 300,000+ people in North Texas) providing daily support.
- Prevalence Trends: Due to the “Silver Tsunami” (the aging Baby Boomer population) and the fact that DFW is one of the fastest-growing regions in the U.S., these numbers are projected to increase by 20–25% over the next decade.
Why the Numbers are Higher in Certain Areas
You may notice higher concentrations of these conditions in Dallas and Tarrant counties compared to Collin or Denton. This is often attributed to:
- Aging in Place: Older, more established neighborhoods in Dallas and Fort Worth have a higher density of residents who have lived in their homes for 40+ years.
- Health Disparities: Statistically, Black and Hispanic Americans are 1.5 to 2 times more likely to develop Alzheimer’s than White Americans. Dallas County, in particular, has a higher demographic representation of these groups, leading to a higher prevalence rate.
- “Invisible” Dementia: These numbers only reflect those with a formal diagnosis or severe symptoms. Many experts believe the true number of seniors with early-stage cognitive impairment in DFW is 15–20% higher, as many families attribute early memory loss to “normal aging” and do not seek a clinical evaluation.
