Care Mountain home health care offers an option of Live In Care to care for Alzheimer’s disease in Plano, TX & other surrounding Dallas, TX area cities. The information shared here will be based upon Care Mountain’s leadership experience since 1986 of providing Live In Care for someone with Alzheimer’s disease.
Live In Care is a popular caregiver option for those having an illness or disease that puts their health and well being at high risk if ever left alone in their home. Alzheimer’s disease and other common types of dementia tend to be the main diseases in this category.
Live In Care takes on many different meanings. In some cases the caregiver moves in with their client and receives room, board and typically some added compensation. In other cases, the caregiver does not move in, but rather stays only a set number of days each week. In addition to a place to sleep, this caregiver can also receive board and/or other compensation. Care Mountain home health care provides Live In caregivers that do not move into the client’s home.
The two biggest reasons people prefer Live In care is that it typically costs them about 45% less and there will be a lot less caregivers coming and going versus covering the 24 hour periods with shift workers. A trade off is that the Live In caregivers will need to get an adequate sleep time, versus the shift workers awake at all times. We have found this trade off to rarely be an issue though.
When providing Live In care for an Alzheimer’s patient, it is critical to have a backup staff plan. This is one of the biggest dilemmas faced by those trying to hire a Live In caregiver privately, versus going through a home health care agency like Care Mountain that has the ability to readily provide back up caregivers for Alzheimer’s care. At least once a month I get a frantic call that someone’s privately hired caregiver could not work, and they are asking if Care Mountain can send someone over right away to cover for that caregiver as they can not do without a caregiver.
It is strongly suggested that you only hire a Live In caregiver for someone with Alzheimer’s disease that has prior experience as a Live In caregiver, and of course has worked extensively with Alzheimer’s disease. Being a Live In caregiver is like working a night shift, fewer people can or are willing to do it long term. And one of the most important requirements of successful care for Alzheimer’s at home is consistency. Caregiver turnover has a very big negative impact on the care of someone with Alzheimer’s disease or other progressive types of dementia. You will be taking a big risk with letting someone try out a Live In assignment that has no successful Live In experience. Care Mountain’s Live In caregivers all have extensive highly rated experience as Live In caregivers. And of course, we offer client’s with Alzheimer’s disease only caregivers that have a five star reputation providing care for Alzheimer’s disease.
The amount of days in a row you have your Live In caregiver work will impact caregiver turnover and my be relevant to federal and state labor law compliance. Most of our referred out caregivers choose not to work more than four consecutive days in a week as a Live In caregiver. We have cases where we are doing Live In care giving less than seven days a week, and the family is picking up the other days to save money. There are often hybrid schedules like this that can be worked out with your caregiver team as a further cost saving measure.
No matter how much good experience the prospective Live In caregiver has, you will want to make sure he/she is the right caregiver fit for your loved one. Since the caregiver and the client will be around each other so much, you need to get as close to perfect as you can for a fit for each other. Care Mountain has a proprietary method of doing this based upon 31+ years of experience, that has worked very well for our clients.
Budgeting for the length of time that Live In care will be used is a major task faced by all families. Care Mountain often gets client’s needing temporary 24 hour Live In care while rehabilitating from an illness or broken bone. But, if it’s a progressive form of dementia like Alzheimer’s disease, the Live In care becomes indefinite if the goal is to stay at home versus moving into a facility. Our longest Live In assignment caring at home for someone with Alzheimer’s disease lasted about six years. This was with a family that called Care Mountain for Live In home health care in Arlington, TX.
Of course the Alzheimer’s Association of Greater Dallas and the North Central Texas Chapter of Alzheimer’s Association are two of the best local sources in the Plano, TX and Dallas, TX area to get help with the care at home of someone with Alzheimer’s disease.
