24 hour Dallas area in home care can be done on an hourly shift work bases, or as a Live In.  Live In home care doesn’t not necessarily mean someone is going to move into your home. It can just involve a caregiver staying multiple days in a row, and then switching out with another caregiver for a few days before returning, with both caregivers living somewhere else.

As a general rule, the Live In home care option will tend to cost much less than doing 24 hour home care on an hourly shift work bases.  Live In home care rates range widely depending upon if you are getting a caregiver privately or through a licensed in home care agency, where the caregivers are licensed, bonded and insured.  The Live In rate paid to your caregiver will also depend upon whatever other compensation you offer, such as room and board.  Live In rates from established, reputable licensed home care agencies will typically range from $240 to $300 per day, with some charging a few dollars extra per day if there is a second person to care for.  If you choose a Live In caregiver privately, and not through a licensed home care agency, then rates from reputable caregivers will typically range from $150 to $225 per day.

If you are looking into 24 hour home care on an hourly shift work bases (caregivers not allowed to sleep), then in the Dallas, TX area you can expect to pay $18 to $20 per hour through a licensed agency, and $11 to $15 per hour for a private unlicensed caregiver.  Some of the trade offs in deciding upon 24 hour home care between Live In caregivers and hourly shift worker caregivers are: 1. In order to get the lower priced Live In caregiver, the caregiver will need to get adequate sleep time within a 24 hour period, which may pose a client safety concern to some.  2.  Your Live In care giving team will typically consist of just two caregivers, while a 24/7 staffed hourly shift work staffed care giving team will typically involve four or five care givers.

If you are looking into 24 hour in home care, then it is likely that your condition is such that not having a caregiver in your home poses an elevated health and safety risk to you.  This is where you will likely make an important trade off between the lower priced unlicensed private caregiver, versus paying more for a licensed caregiver through a home health care agency.  I get at least three calls every month from a family member in extreme panic because their unlicensed private caregiver did not, or could not, show up for work, and their mom or dad can not be left safely unattended.  Their first question in desperation is how soon can you get a caregiver over there to help?

Care Mountain is a State licensed 24 hour home care agency that like most other reputable home care agencies can easily provide replacement caregivers for its existing clients, which is why after 12+ years we have ZERO State complaints. We have a Plan A, Plan B and Plan C to cover existing client’s scheduled shifts, so they are not without a caregiver.  When someone who is not on our client list calls for service, we need to meet them first for a free home health care assessment. After that, we can refer out to them a caregiver meeting their needs. Please be aware, that when (not if) your unlicensed private caregiver can not make it in to work, it will take a miracle to find a reputable replacement in a short period of time by just calling around.

Another important thing to know if you are considering going with a private unlicensed care giver is that it will be a lot easier to find the more expensive hourly shift work caregivers, than to obtain reputable Live In caregivers.  There is just a small percentage of caregivers willing and/or able to be a Dallas area Live In caregiver.  And of those that are willing and/or able, I can tell your from 30+ years of experience, many of them you don’t want in your home.  Getting a reputable and stable Live In caregiver will not be easy!

Another consideration is ensuring you are able to make a good match with your needs and the qualifications of a caregiver.  Those cases requiring 24 hour home care usually involve more delicate and complicated health care matters than most other cases, and a reputable licensed home health care agency will be better able to assess your needs and ensure a qualified caregiver is placed for you.
