If you are looking for additional in home health care in Dallas, TX area assisted living facilities, or in home care in Dallas, TX area retirement communities, then this article will share some things you should find helpful. Since 2004, Care Mountain has been providing highest rated in home care caregivers to seniors and elderly in Dallas, TX area assisted living facilities, retirement communities and nursing homes.  This experience is the bases for much of the information shared here.

There are so many wonderful assisted living facilities in the Dallas, TX area, but your monthly payment to the facility will include a limit on how much personal care or home health care you will receive. Many are surprised to see the cost of this added care exceed their base monthly payment to the facility. This one of the first important things to know.  Before signing a contract with any assisted living facility, be sure to get in writing how much personal care or in home health care is included within your base monthly rate.  There is no “all inclusive” rate in assisted living! For senior independent living retirement communities your base monthly payment will likely include very little to none of these services.

Once you decide that you will be needing personal care or home health care not included in your monthly payment to the facility, then you will have choices.  Most facilities will have an “in-house” Dallas home health care agency that they own or have some type of partnership agreement with. That agency will likely be the one heavily promoted in the facility newsletter and be renting a small office space on premises.  If this agency’s rates and/or quality of service do not meet your standards, then you have the right to choose another company to come in and help you.

Your facility will have a reputation to protect, so if you decide not to choose the “in-house” home health care company, then the home health care agency you choose will have certain guidelines to follow as a condition for working within that facility. Facilities with good reputations will want your agency’s caregiver to sign in and out each visit, and many will want to ensure the agency’s caregiver meets certain background check requirements. The caregiver will also be expected to follow all the facility’s policy and procedures that apply to any guest you may have.

If your facility has a poor quality reputation, we found they will make it very difficult for you to get your own caregiver in to help you.  The reason is simple, they do not want to risk an outsider seeing something bad and reporting it to the State licensing agency. Some common examples of difficulties you may face in these cases are management implying/stating that you can not bring in your own caregiver, adding requirements to your caregiver that are not part of the facilities stated policy and procedures, and making it very difficult to get a straight answer on anything.

Whatever agency you choose to get your caregiver from, we found it important to ensure the caregiver has experience working in the type of facility where you are living. A lot of in home care caregivers are used to working alone with a client in their home.  Working in a congregate setting with other caregivers provides a teamwork dynamic that some caregivers do not do so well with. At Care Mountain, our home health care caregivers are all highly experienced and only placed in settings which they have successful experience.
